This is a real high mountain environment, so be very
careful, especially with the meteo conditions. Important
also to check the glacier and snow conditions beforehand,
especially in spring and early summer.

Start of the Ferrata: Gare de Montenvers, 1'913 m. Arrival:
Refuge du Couvercle, 2 687 m.
Timing:
Montenvers - Cabane du Couvercle: 4 to 5 hours. Return
through les Egralets and the magnifiscent Mer de glace,
3h. This ferrata requires a very good physical condition.
 By road : You will catch the Montenvers
Train in Chamonix, so you need to reach Chamonix first
:
 By train : Easy access from Switzerland (change trains in
Martigny)
Catch the little
train à crémaillère
in the village center, climbing to Montenvers. From the
Montenvers Station, descend the ladders down on the Mer
de Glace (follow the signs "Les refuges"). Cross
the glacier towards the Echellets (White square painted
on the rock wall on the opposite side). Climb several
ladders among trees and bushes before rechaing the "balcony".
Right under the Charpoua hut (optional climb up, 1h up
and down), another series of ladders, crossings and climbings
along rock walls, before reaching a steep little path
towards a small pass, from which the Couvercle hut is
visible. Very well marked trail all throughout.
